As we approach Christmas day, I can’t help but think about peace. This world is anything but peaceful most of the time. I think we have to work at finding peace in our lives.
When Jesus was born, the angels sang “Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth, goodwill to men.” Luke 2. One of my favorite verses is John 14:27 where Jesus said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Is it ironic that when He came into this world, the angels sang peace on earth, and as He is about to leave this world, He wanted to leave peace to his disciples and us? I don’t think so.
Another favorite verse of mine is John 16:33 where Jesus said “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus said we will have trouble in this world. Not you might, or maybe, but you will! And boy do we! But, we can also have His peace. I think the most important way to have it is to pray. To be honest I haven’t always had the best prayer life. But as I have gotten older and life has changed so much, I realize that prayer is all I really need. I need to talk to the One who holds life. I need Him every second of every day!
So, as you go through this holiday season, remember the One who bring peace to our hearts and souls if only we’ll let Him.
As the Jews greet each other, Shalom.
