Recently I was having dinner with a couple of my good, good friends. During our conversation, one of them mentioned that she had been to a retreat and told how great it was. There she met a woman who touched her life. As my friend told her story (we all have one, don’t we?) to the ladies at the retreat, one lady looked at her and said, “You don’t have to wear that!” And she brushed her shoulder as if there were dust on it.
I love this! So many times in this world, people try to judge us by the wrong they see or think they see in us, and sometimes rightly so. But really only God knows our hearts. We all do wrong, but how are our hearts? Look at David in the Bible. He was an adulterer and murderer, but the Bible says he was still a man after God’s own heart. God knew David’s heart and loved him in spite of the wrong in his life. No one knows us, really and truly knows our hearts, like God does.
So when others say something to us or try to put something on us that we’ve confessed and asked forgiveness for, we need to just tell ourselves we’re not going to wear that and brush it off our shoulders!
Cast off what you don’t want to wear!
