Have you ever done something so bad that you wonder how you’ll ever be able to get beyond it? Maybe you hurt someone very close to you, and you wonder how you’ll ever face that person again. Or maybe you’ve done something only God knows about, and you wonder how you’ll ever make it to Heaven now.
In my Bible reading this morning I couldn’t help think about this concept with Peter. I think I’m a lot like Peter. I am rash in my words and actions sometimes. I can picture myself as the one who is so passionate, that I might pull a sword when they tried to take Jesus away like Peter did. Then, a few hours later, I might be the one who denies Jesus. I’d like to think I wouldn’t, but being honest, I might.
How did Peter move on after that? I would guess there wasn’t a day that went by he didn’t think about it. The hardest thing to do is forgive yourself for something. And the next hardest is remembering that God has forgiven you. We don’t have to keep asking over and over for Him to forgive the same thing.
Denying knowing Jesus? Wow!
But don’t we do that everyday in our own wrong words and actions, our own sinning? Do we really think we are better than anyone else? Do we really think we’d never deny knowing Jesus especially 3 times?!
I think we try to fool ourselves into thinking we are better than we are. The only way to move on from our sin is to repent of it, and remember that God sees us through Jesus’ blood that makes us Christians white as pure snow!
Thank you, God, that you forgive me every second of every day!! I know I need it.
