Have you ever met anyone for the first time and thought, “They are so arrogant!” even though you don’t know them well? Then you get to know them, and they turn out to be truly arrogant or it was just that moment when you met them they had that air about them.
I just finished 1 Corinthians in my daily Bible reading. I can’t help but think sometimes Paul comes across so arrogant. It seems he brags about what a great Jew he is and all the great characteristics with which he can define himself.
But then you read on in his letters and realize he is only arrogant because he can be…in Christ.
In 1 Corinthians 15 verses 9-10 it says:
For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain.
Paul knows that without God’s grace toward him, he would be nothing. We need attitude like this. To only brag within God’s grace toward us. We do wrong things every single day of our lives. What have we to brag about except God’s grace?
I may not be much, but I am what I am only because of what God has done for me!
