I love to watch The Andy Griffith Show! They don’t make shows like that any more.
Last night we were invited to some friends’ house for a time of worship with only singing. If you’ve read my blogs, you know I love music and love to sing but can’t do one and am not very good at the other. We arrived with about a minute to spare and ended up sitting on the front row. 🙂
As I sat there singing with the group, I was hoping no one was going to stop us to point out that someone sounded like Barney Fife singing off key. Sitting on the front row, I could hear all the beautiful voices behind me blending together to praise the name of Jesus. It brought tears to my eyes a few times.
We sang some songs I knew and some I didn’t know. One was called If That Isn’t Love. Look at the words:
He left the splendor of heaven
Knowing His destiny
Was the lonely hill of Golgotha
There to lay down His life for me
And if that isn’t love
Then the ocean is dry
There’s no stars in the sky
And the little sparrows can’t fly
Yeah if that isn’t love
Then heaven’s a myth
There’s no feeling like this
If that isn’t love
Even in death He remembered
The thief hanging by His side
Then he spoke of love and compassion
And He took him to paradise
And if that isn’t love
Then the ocean is dry
There’s no stars in the sky
And the little sparrows can’t fly
Yeah if that isn’t love
Then heaven’s a myth
There’s no feeling like this
If that isn’t love It’s got to be love

We throw the word ‘love’ around a lot. We love each other. We love chocolate. We love baseball. We love…
But what do we really know about love? I think only Jesus has shown us what true love is.
By the way, no one stopped me singing last night. I think God likes my voice. After all, He gave it to me. As the Psalmist said in Psalm 104 verse 33, “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.”
