Growing up in the church, I remember singing many songs. Two I’m thinking about this morning are Come Fill My Cup and Would You Be Poured Out.
There are many analogies used in the Bible by which we can choose to live.
What does it mean to be poured out? For whom are we poured out? Why are we to be poured out?
Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 4 that he was being poured out like a drink offering and his death was near. And in Philippians 2, Paul said he was being poured out like a drink offering for the people.
If we are to be poured out, doesn’t our cup have to be full? How do we fill our cups?
We fill our cups with Jesus. Only He can fill us to overflowing. Many times He uses people. Often it is those who fill our cups who we also pour out into.
Also we try to fill our cups with other things. We see it everyday. People searching for something to fill them up and usually in the wrong places. I believe God put in us a want, a need, for Him. One that only He can fill.
We cannot be filled with anything except Jesus in order to be whole and feel complete. Unless we are full of Jesus, we cannot pour out ourselves to others.
