We’ve all heard the saying ‘garbage in, garbage out.’ How far do you take it though?
I have to say I feel worse when I’m eating unhealthy, watching the wrong shows, reading inappropriate books, or even when I see negative things on social media.
But how much is too much?
Eating healthy for me and perhaps for anyone, should be easy, but it isn’t. Having a disease or two that makes one constantly think about food is not ideal. Plus the cravings sometimes make it very difficult.
I like to read and am currently reading a book that is about government espionage which is very far from being a Christian book. I confess I used to love to read romance novels but only read ones now that I know are Christian based.
As far as social media goes, I cannot control what others post or the language they use, but I can unfollow them, limit my time on the sites, or completely delete it all.
But as with every single thing in our lives, I think there is a balance. What is good for you may not be good for me.
I know this puts me in the minority, but I do not like to watch scary things on TV. I prefer happily ever after shows. Give me The Andy Griffith Show rather than any CSI episode.
I suppose the bottom line is what does God want us to put in our minds and bodies? Is it okay to have a piece of chocolate? Yes, but not the whole bag. Is it okay to watch murder mystery shows? Maybe for you.
But I don’t think it’s okay to watch shows constantly using God’s name in vain or throwing nudity at us. To me that is ‘garbage in.’ We may not think it’s hurting us, but I believe things like that catch up to us, just like eating unhealthy.
As Christians our bodies are the temple of God. Would we watch that certain movie or show in His house?
Stand up for the right. If we don’t, who will?
