So many people have constant hard times. One right after the other. I don’t know why except I’ve heard it said if you’re trying to live like God wants you to, satan attacks harder.
There’s a movie I really like called As Good As It Gets. Perhaps you’ve seen it. There are two scenes in particular with which we can identify.
First, the three main characters, Melvin in the back seat, Carol driving, and Simon riding shotgun, are driving to try to get some help for Simon. He tells his story to the other two. When he’s finished, Carol says everyone has sad or bad stories. From the backseat Melvin says not everyone. Some people have great stories, just no one in their car. Watch it below.
The other scene is when Melvin is leaving the psychiatrist’s office. He turns to everyone in the waiting room and says, “What if this is as good as it gets?” Watch it below.
As Christians we know this is not as good as it gets. Maybe it’s as good as it’s gonna get while we are here suffering perhaps, but we know the best is yet to come.
1 Peter 1:6 says, In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
Just for a little while.
When we face the bad times, the terrible awfuls, we have to remember it’s only for a little while.
It’s not as good as it’s gonna get!
