I have a friend from way back who has a daughter she named Glory. I’ve never asked her why she named her daughter that, but I think perhaps it’s because she had her later in life than most people. Maybe she thought her a miracle.
I’ve been thinkin about glory lately ever since our minister preached about Stephen in Acts 7. As Stephen was being stoned and close to death, he was filled with the Holy Spirit, looked up and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
The phrase ‘glory of God’ appears in the Bible 58 times, and the phrase ‘glory of the LORD’ appears 77 times both in the NIV.
Glory is defined as magnificence or great beauty. One author defines the glory of God as the infinite beauty and greatness of God’s manifold perfections.
Wonder what that glory looked like to Stephen? Wonder what it looks like to us?
Maybe Stephen could see it only because he was full of the Holy Spirit.
Have you ever seen it? Have I ever seen it? Maybe.
Maybe my friend laid eyes on her daughter at birth and said Glory Be! and named her Glory because she was so beautiful!
