Red Hot

There are a lot of life lessons out in nature. I believe God made it that way. All we have to do is go outside and look around to see Him.

I’ve blogged a couple of times on life lessons from the zero-turn mower. If you’re interested in those posts, you can read them here and here.

Being on the mower every other weekend, provides so much time to think. It is also a time to experience the dangers of nature and the creatures lurking and living on the land.

Living on a farm, we have many creatures. Some we have purchased like chickens, and some we have not.

Like fire ants.

We have many mounds of fire ants scattered around our 50 acres. It is somehow satisfying to run over them with the mower. Then, when I make the next turn coming up on the ants again, I see them scurrying about in a panic. It reminds me of the movies Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and A Bug’s Life.

But there was one time, they got their revenge. I mowed over them and stopped the mower right on top of the mound. My plan was working until I realized in a split second that I was down wind of them coming out from under the mower.

Needless to say, I sped off like a crazy person letting the wind carry off what I couldn’t brush off. I still got stung, but it wasn’t too bad.

It got me thinking…this is what we do with sin and temptations sometimes.

We get as close as we can, perhaps sitting right there with it, and then we get stung. When instead we need to be running away. Going away as fast as we can.

Like those ants, sin will bite us and burn us quicker than we think. Before we know it, we can get caught up in the fire of it all.

Don’t let yourself get bitten and burned!
