Someone once said the worst invention ever made was the garage door opener. We open our garage, drive in, and never speak to anyone.
Our neighbor never, ever leaves his house except to walk his dog right outside his front door. He works from home. He has his groceries delivered. He has all his food and supplies delivered.
What has our world come to that we don’t have to leave our house for anything? We don’t even have to leave our car now to get groceries. We can have them delivered or go to one of the grocery stores where someone else has shopped for us and will put the bags in the car for us. We even call it ‘click’ because we’ve ordered it all at the click of a button.
I can’t help but think of all the lost opportunities when we aren’t out in the world. I know it’s hard to be out there sometimes. There are times I want to crawl into a hole never to see or speak to anyone. But that isn’t what God wants us to do. He want us to be out there for Him. How are we going to reach anyone if we never interact with them?
I know how hard it is when you have to drag your kids everyone you go especially after a long day of working. I know how hard it is when they act out while you’re trying to shop. But isn’t that a perfect opportunity to show others and your kids, Jesus?
We rationalize everything. We make things okay that maybe we need to rethink. Perhaps a person who is ill should be able to stay at home and receive these services, but someone who is well needs to be out in the world being an example for Christ.
I know this will offend some people, but I’m willing to take that risk to get you to think about being in the world but not of the world.
You are so right
