Have you ever been around that one person who, anytime he or she speaks, it is never, ever significant? Never important, never deep? Sometimes they even have ‘diarrhea of the mouth?’ Are you that type of person?
I’m in Job in my daily reading. Job was in the middle of his suffering and needed encouragement. Instead of getting kind, soft, uplifting words, he was being accused of wrong-doing by his seemingly closest friends. How alone he must have felt!
In chapter 21 Job says:
How then will you comfort me with empty nothings?
There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood.”
No one wants to hear ’empty nothings!’ No one wants anything but encouragement in bad times. No one wants to be accused falsely of anything.
Why is it we feel we have to say anything at all? Just be there. Just exist for a time.
Just be still and know!
What a timely post! Recently, I’ve been looking at Scriptures that focus on the tongue and our words, and I feel quite convicted. At our age, we can look back to the millions of different words we’ve said in our lives and it’s easy to see how often we waste our breath on mere babbling. 🙋♀️
