Yesterday, I got to spend a few hours with my great niece who is 9 years old. We were shopping at a marketplace event, and she was intrigued with all the people to see and things to buy.
There were a couple of times when she saw something like shell necklaces or velvet scrunchies she said to me the girls in her school wear these on their necks and wrists along with their Apple watches and iPhones in their pockets.
She has none of those things. I told her things aren’t what makes a person. It’s on the inside.
I am proud of my niece and nephew for raising her to be the girl she is. They monitor all she does and eats. They aren’t giving in to peer pressure or pressure from her to buy her things she isn’t ready for. It isn’t that they cannot afford to give her these things. They know what is most important to give her.
It is hard to raise kids today, and it’s hard to be a kid today as well. Prayer is sometimes the only thing that we have, especially when it seems the world is against us.
But it doesn’t matter if the world is against us, only that God is for us!
