When my girls were younger and I was blessed to be able to help out in our church youth group once in a while, the kids would sing a song from Psalm 13 called “How Long, O Lord” which I love. Here I’ve included the version by Nate Hale which I think is one of the best ones, and it was how the kids sang it. I would sometimes just sit and listen as the girls sang their part then the guys did their part.
Psalm 13 says How long, Lord, will you continue to ignore me?
How long will you pay no attention to me?
2 How long must I worry,
and suffer in broad daylight?
How long will my enemy gloat over me?
3 Look at me! Answer me, O Lord my God!
Revive me, or else I will die!
4 Then my enemy will say, “I have defeated him!”
Then my foes will rejoice because I am upended.
5 But I trust in your faithfulness.
May I rejoice because of your deliverance!
6 I will sing praises to the Lord
when he vindicates me. (NET)
I know this life is short. I can see that when I look in the mirror every day. I know we cry out to God, how long. I know we feel ignored sometimes. But if I want to pass on just one message to those of you reading this, it would be to make sure your life and heart are right with God before you go to sleep tonight. Don’t wait until tomorrow. There may not be one.
