Have you ever really stopped and thought about the crown of thorns that Jesus was made to wear when He was crucified? Was He the only one the soldiers made this for? What if it was a regular thing the Romans did to everyone being crucified? What if you were the one whose job it was to make them for the people on death row?
I think perhaps Jesus was the only one to wear the crown of thorns since they made a sign saying “King of the Jews” to put above Him on the cross. Still, what would it have been like to make that crown?
We have a tree on our farm that is full of thorns. I’m not sure if it is a virus or if that tree naturally has them. No other tree that I have come across has these thorns. When I look at them, I’m reminded of the suffering of my Savior for me, and the thorny crown was just a small part of it. But looking at those thorns, knowing when those soldiers pushed it on His head, the thorns would have gone all the way through His skin to his skull making Him lose even more blood than He already had from the beatings. If you’ve ever had a head wound, you know they bleed like nothing else. All this before He even made it to the cross!
In the past I’ve cut these thorns from the tree with the idea of making a crown. I didn’t have the right gloves. By the time I tried to even get the thorns to bend together, I had many cuts on my hands and fingers. So, needless to say, I didn’t make the crown. Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t get to make it. I think it would have been too painful to look upon.
Thank You, Jesus!
