Being at private schools as a student and as a teacher, I have noticed how many songs we sing in chapel that can have difficult meanings. I’m not sure the kids know what all the words mean.
One such song I can remember singing is called “His Banner Over us is Love.” Like most kids, I didn’t know what the words meant back then.
One verse says, He calls us in to His banqueting table, His banner over us is love. I never knew as a kid first what His banquet table was much less what His banner was.
A while back I was visiting my daughter in Cookeville and attended worship with her. The preacher’s message was from Revelation 19. In John’s vision the angel says to him in verse 9, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
The wedding supper, the banquet of the Lamb! Ready and waiting for those of us who die in Him.
The preacher suggested those who’ve gone on before us to their rewards are perhaps sitting at that table.
Of course, my mind went to my Daddy sitting there. I can just see him telling his jokes and laughing with everyone!
It’s hard to imagine while we are still here on this earth with so much pain and sorrow, death and dying.
But one day…one day soon, we will be able to eat all we want and whatever we want with THE LAMB of GOD because He has prepared a feast for us, His bride!
“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give Him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and His bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
There’s a chair waiting for you and One who understands so bring it all….To the Table!
