Decisions, Decisions

They say the average person makes 33,000 to 35,000 decisions every day. Some things come so automatic that we don’t even think about of those daily decisions.

Then, there are those decisions that are so very difficult. Punishing your naughty child; giving the car keys to your teenager; taking a loved one off life support; and everything in between. These are the ones that can make us or break us.

As parents, I think we all often look back and think we should have done things differently. Show me a parent who says they wouldn’t change a thing, and I’ll show you a liar.

I know we are supposed to look ahead, but it is hard not to think about the past decisions. The shoulda woulda couldas. Did I do everything I could for my dying parent. Is my child’s illness or death my fault? On and on!

The lessons we learn as adults are so many time very hard. To help me get through these times, I try to remember: God is faithful; He keeps His promises; He will not fail me as humans do and will; this world is not my home; this body is only a rental and not meant to last forever; we parents do the best we can to counter the influence of the world, but our kids grow up to make their own mistakes just like we did; we children do the best we can to honor our aged and dying parents but it is not easy.

“Life is hard and then you die.”

What are you going to do in the mean time?
